CP CARGA rebrands as MEDLOG: aspiration to become a leading Iberian operator

16/05/2016

MEDLOG is a new brand which provides inland logistics services for customers across multiple industries throughout Portugal. The brand was presented today at Museu da Eletricidade and replaces the former CP Carga – Logística e Transportes Ferroviários de Mercados SA, following a privatization process concluded last January.

According to Carlos Vasconcelos, MEDLOG’s Portugal President of the Board, “creating this new brand marks the beginning of a new phase in the company, with new values and a new identity, that reflects both the history of CP Carga and the bright future it has as a leading Iberian operator. We want to provide high quality services while keeping strong relationships with our clients, based on trust and partnerships. Our business strategy acknowledges the need to extend our activity beyond rail transport, as a way to offer fully integrated logistics solutions.”

Carlos Vasconcelos also adds that “this moment is an important step positioning our new value proposition to the market”.
The rebranding of this Portuguese operator was required in the specifications of the public contest for the acquisition of 95% of the capital of the company – a contest that MSC won. This has been a key priority for the new management, as well as the optimization of the trains interiors and the development of strong synergies with maritime and dry ports. In addition to these changes in the operations area, MEDLOG’s management has also negotiated the rental of 4 new locomotives, which will be at the company’s disposal during 2017.

Meanwhile, efforts have been made to implement the development plan created for the company – bearing in mind the potential of the Portuguese railway network. With the aim of turning MEDLOG into a leading logistics operator in the Iberian Peninsula, the Board is also considering expanding the project into Spain in the future.

The name of the new company has been chosen based on 550 proposals received from employees.  MEDLOG reaffirms its commitment to all employees, who are fully motivated to be part of the family-owned company and who are aligned with the ongoing growth strategy.
