MSC President and CEO to Speak at Africa CEO Forum

17/03/2017

Mr Diego Aponte, MSC’s President and CEO, is to participate as a speaker in the forthcoming Africa CEO Forum.

Taking place in Geneva for two days from Monday 20th March, the event also sees MSC acting as an official sponsor.

Africa has a very special place in the heart of our company, making this prestigious event all the more of an ‘occasion’ in our year’s busy schedule.

Indeed, our first liner service began in the 1970’s, operating between the Mediterranean and East Africa.

Since then, we have consciously invested in the continent and its people to a great extent. We now have a presence in 40 of its countries, are supported by over 8,000 staff there, and operate 50 weekly ocean services connecting Africa to the rest of the world.

“The Africa CEO Forum is recognised as the platform to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Africa in the coming years,” said Diego Aponte.

“MSC has a long and proud history with Africa and we want to be part of the continent’s exciting future, providing a valuable contribution to the economy and the community.”

Across our cargo business, MSC has had a significant and positive contribution to the continent’s story to date.

MSC has invested over 500 million dollars to transform the terminal of Lomé into a state of the art hub for West Africa, and we now have four strategic terminals in Africa.

Our inland logistical provision ensures transportation across Africa via rail, trucks and barge, while our market leading shipping services in the continent mean we are the choice carrier for so many businesses transporting goods to and from Africa.

In front of an audience of around 1,000 delegates – who will have travelled from some 60 countries – Mr Aponte will take part in a discussion forum on the issue of Family Business.

He is one of a small number of esteemed international business leaders being given a platform to discuss their success and strengths at this highly regarded occasion.

The Family-themed ‘panel’ contribution be moderated by Hischam El Agamy, professor at the Institute of Management Development in Lausanne.
